Meeting point is the Car Park at Panshanger (aka The Fairway Tavern, Old Herns Lane, WGC AL7 2ED”)
Following on from the very well supported and enjoyable pot luck event in December HBAM are holding a similar event on Saturday 20th March. · All Associates and Members are invited (see below “What is Pot Luck” and what to expect) · 9am register your attendance with Bernie. · 9:30am pairings arranged and finalized. (it will be unlikely you will get a ride if you are late) Bring along with you; · Driving license both parts · Insurance certificate. · MOT certificate if applicable · Any current ride reports from your existing Observer. You can expect an interesting ride around Hertfordshire for a couple of hours using a variety of A roads, B Roads, lanes towns and villages. You will end up at Panshanger aerodrome WGC for refreshments, debrief and a social gathering. What is a "Pot Luck" session? This is a superb event to complement your one to one observed rides with your allocated observer and does not in any way intend to replace those one to one sessions. Pot Lucks will be advertised throughout the year and gives everyone the opportunity to turn up and have an observed ride, with another observer, hence Pot Luck as to who you get. The group will meet at a given location and allows associates and observers to meet others within the group and help promote a more healthy/lively club atmosphere. There are several benefits to these sessions: you get to see another style of observing, there will be one observer with one or two or even three associates and you will all go out together for approximately one and a half hours. This has the added benefit of watching other associates riding and listening to their feedback and you could therefore potentially take part in up to three rides and de briefs, which will greatly help your understanding of the system of motorcycle control. Having met other associates you can arrange to meet and ride out together covering those very important miles between observed rides and be able to practice. As the weather improves you could possibly arrange to ride out that afternoon whilst the feedback is fresh in your mind. At the conclusion of the ride out we return to a venue where the debriefs can be had together with refreshments and once again there is an opportunity to meet others within the group and share some of the mornings experiences. A Pot Luck session will also allow new members to the group to go out on an observed ride prior to being allocated an observer. You can also take the opportunity of learning new routes used by other observers. For those that wish to go that bit further within the group, having successfully passed their test, this is a great opportunity to 'shadow' observers and pick up on the different styles of observing and feedback presentation. This is also a great opportunity for any observer or senior observer that may require a check test to step up to the plate! It must be stressed that these Pot Luck sessions are in addition to your observed rides with your allocated observer and are not intended to replace them. |
